The Metropolitan Opera's first high-definition broadcast into movie theaters, a family-friendly production of Mozart's The Magic Flute, returns to select cinemas this holiday season in celebration of the award-winning Live in HD series' tenth anniversary. Featuring a brief introduction from veteran news personality, Katie Couric, this 100-minute abridged version of Tony Award-winning director Julie Taymor's dazzling production also features an English translation by J.D. McClatchy. The cast includes Ying Huang as Pamina, Matthew Polenzani as Tamino, Nathan Gunn as Papageno, Erika Miklósa as the Queen of the Night, and René Pape as Sarastro. Met Music Director James Levine conducts. The first-ever Live in HD broadcast of The Magic Flute in 2006 was seen in 98 theaters in 4 countries. Now, the series is seen in more than 2,000 theaters in 70 countries, and 19 million tickets have been sold around the world.
